Some of the most memorable gadgets in James Bond movies were prototypes seen only briefly in the traditional scene-setting tour of the Q Branch laboratory, or on the rare occasions when Q himself accompanied Bond on a mission. Ingenious as they were, not all proved to be an unqualified success.

A missile launcher cunningly disguised as a leg cast and demonstrated by Q to a bemused Pierce Brosnan in ‘GoldenEye’ was one of several bright ideas that didn’t make it into the field.
