To celebrate the 40th anniversary of iconic film ‘Smokey and the Bandit’, online used-car dealership Carspring has imagined a series of cars the stars of the film would drive today.

It’s been 40 years since action comedy ‘Smokey and the Bandit’ crashed on to the silver screen, and, inspired by the anniversary, online used-car dealership Carspring has released a set of images of modern cars the characters from the movie might abuse. The Dodge Charger Hellcat, for example, takes the place of the Sheriff’s 1977 Pontiac LeMans (seen above). Legendary trucker Bo ‘the Bandit’ Darville (Burt Reynolds in a career-defining role) would now drive a series of cars rather than the 1976 Pontiac Trans Am with a black and gold paint scheme.

The action of the film centres around a pair of truck drivers carrying beer illicitly across state borders, while carrying a hitchhiking runaway bride and pursued by her future father-in-law, who happens to be a sheriff.

To mark the anniversary, Carspring commissioned the Italian transport design team Inspire LAB to come up with a vision of what the protagonists would be driving now.

The full set of reimagined cars can be seen on the Carspring blog:
