Water harvested from clouds used to make craft beer

Beer-maker Innis & Gunn is harvesting water directly from clouds above Scottish Dumfries and Galloway to make a new type of ale.
The brewer has sent a four-person team up into the sky with a special device fitted with a turbine and a condenser to suck moisture from the clouds. The water collected was used to make 500 pints of the new Sky.P.A.
The introduction of the sky beer coincides with a launch of the beer-maker’s first equity crowd-funding campaign that the firm hopes will help fund the development of further innovative products.
“Experimentation is in our blood and we’re incredibly excited to invite beer lovers and investors everywhere to join us on our quest to push the boundaries of beer,” said Innis & Gunn founder and master brewer, Dougal Gunn Sharp.
“Now, we’re brewing a beer by harvesting water straight from the Scottish clouds. Through AdventureCapital, we’re hoping we can invent more brews like Sky.P.A. with a group of people as passionate as we are about beer.”
The campaign, which the company hopes will raise £1m, is the first time Innis & Gunn shares are being made available to investors.
“We’re inviting people to own a piece of Innis & Gunn,” said Gunn Sharp. “We’ve never made shares available before and I couldn’t think of anyone better to offer them to than the people who want to help us discover where we can take the beer of tomorrow.”
Innis & Gunn is known for its innovative spirit. In the past, it launched the world’s first beer marmalade and experimented with virtual reality to show how context can influence the taste of beer. The company has even sent beer to Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton with ingredients to enhance cognitive functions.
Investors can invest as little as £10 into the company through the Crowdcube campaign.
