Electric supercar capable of 200mph top speeds

An electric supercar that boasts top speeds up to 200mph has been unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The FFZERO1 is the creation of California-based car maker Faraday Future which described the vehicle as a ‘car of concepts’. Although Faraday has no plans to place the car on sale, it does intend to begin building production cars.

“The FFZERO1 Concept is a remarkable opportunity to explore and amplify the design and engineering ideas that [we’re] developing for our production vehicles,” the company said.

The FFZERO1 chassis is adaptable so that the car can be optimised for performance or longevity. This is achieved by making it longer or shorter to include different numbers of battery packs, while the body is made from carbon fibre.

Adding or subtracting batteries modifies a vehicle’s potential weight, energy efficiency, and travel distance off a single charge.

The car also contains a single-seat cockpit with a smartphone integrated into the steering wheel that can show real-time data and be used to alter the car's set-up.

“Every aspect of the vehicle was shaped around the needs of a single driver. The vehicle envelopes their form, allowing for exceptionally intuitive, ergonomic control,” said Faraday.

The driver’s seat took inspiration from NASA’s ‘zero gravity’ design to offer drivers a sense of weightlessness and to reduce their fatigue.

The car is also fitted with an aerodynamic tunnel that runs through its centre of the vehicle to reduce drag, resulting in greater power efficiency and higher top speeds while producing a cooling effect over the battery and motor.

Other car manufacturers including the likes of BMW, General Motors, VW and Audi were present at CES, although the largest crowds were seen at Faraday Future’s booth.

VW was demonstrating an electric vehicle in the form of an update to its classic microbus model called the BUDD-e.
