IK Multimedia has announced the iRig Mic Studio large-diaphragm condenser microphone and a companion Mic Room microphone response modelling app for all platforms.
The iRig Mic Studio is a diminutive and portable large-diaphragm digital condenser microphone with a one-inch diameter capsule, suitable for musicians, singers, podcasters, broadcasters, voice-over artists or any other recording need. It has been designed for seamless plug-and-play operation with all current platforms, including iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, PC and Android.
The one-inch back electret condenser capsule is intended to capture studio-grade recordings, with an SPL rating of 133dB. The microphone body includes a low-noise, high-definition preamp, 24-bit converters with 44.1/48Khz sampling rate, an integrated headphone output, a multicolor LED status and level indicator and onboard gain and headphone level controls.
The microphone also ships with a portable tripod tabletop stand, protective travel pouch, Lightning, Micro-USB OTG and USB cables and a range of IK’s music apps.
iRig Mic Studio is compatible with a wide variety of third party apps and software, including Cubasis, ProStudio Vocal FX, MultiTrack DAW and more, Apple's GarageBand and Logic Pro X apps and iOS Voice Memo.
iRig Mic Studio comes in silver or black and is available now from music and electronics retailers worldwide and from the IK online store for €179.99 (plus VAT).
The release of iRig Mic Studio coincides with IK’s new Mic Room microphone-modelling app for iPhone and iPad. Similar in concept to IK’s popular AmpliTube guitar amp and effects pedal simulation software, Mic Room models the response of a collection of legendary microphones.
Designed to complement IK's full range of analogue and digital hardware microphones, Mic Room gives musicians, audio engineers and recording hobbyists the ability to ‘re-mic’ their microphone.
In this way, the nature of the captured and recorded sound at the microphone source (e.g. from iRig Mic Studio) can be subtly coloured or radically reshaped and given the familiar aural signature of well-known dynamic mics, classic condensers or vintage ribbons.
Musicians simply plug in their microphone of choice and then choose the virtual mic model they'd like to use. Mic Room automatically detects the input microphone and each virtual model can be tweaked via the intuitive graphic interface.
Mic Room supports IK’s full range of digital and analogue microphones for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch (iRig Mic Studio, iRig Mic HD, iRig Mic Field, iRig Mic, iRig Voice, iRig Mic Cast) and also works with the built-in mic and Apple headset microphones..
Mic Room is also Audiobus and Inter-App Audio compatible, so can be easily assimilated in to an existing workflow.
The Mic Room App is available from the App Store for €7.99. An expandable free version is also available. A native iPad version will be available shortly.
