Wolfson Microelectronics has announced its WM5102S audio codec solution for mobile devices, the latest product in its Audio Hub portfolio.
The Scottish-based company is a globally renowned developer of mixed-signal semiconductor devices and audio solutions for consumer electronics products. The WM5102S features 120dB signal-to-noise ratio and integrates Wolfson’s own Master Hi-Fi filters, which are optimised for authentic playback of 24-bit Studio Master recordings.
These filters bring the respected sonic quality of Wolfson’s ultra-high performance WM8741 DAC to mobile devices, enabling premium high fidelity music playback quality at a fraction of the power consumption, size and cost of systems designed for high-end home audio.
Tim Page, principal product line manager at Wolfson Microelectronics, said: “We are seeing very significant growth in end-user demand for premium quality mobile audio, which is now seen as a key device differentiator. With Studio Master quality recordings increasingly being made available for download onto mobile devices, consumers understandably want to experience these recordings on their mobile devices at the same quality that they would enjoy on premium home audio systems.
"The WM5102S allows consumers to experience the depth, richness and clarity of Studio Mastered audio the way that the artist or composer intended.”
The WM5102S has been distributed to Wolfson’s corporate customers and distribution partners for sampling. Customer confidentiality precludes Wolfson from identifying existing brand users, although it is known that several leading smartphone brands have incorporated Wolfson’s previous Audio Hub product – the high-volume WM5102 – in to their mobile devices.
