Bp UFT winners

BP goes international with its Ultimate Field Trip 2013

BP has launched the Ultimate Field Trip 2013 (UFT), a competition that asks teams of students to solve a real-world energy challenge.

This year, following three successful annual UK competitions, the UFT is going global and will be launched in four countries. Teams from universities in the UK, USA, Trinidad and Tobago and Azerbaijan will be invited to take part in this year’s challenge.

The winning teams from each country will come together for a two-week internship at an international BP location, where they will discover what a career in the industry has to offer. As well as the internship, each winning team member will also receive a prize worth £1,000 and will be guaranteed a graduate or internship interview with BP.

This year’s brief is to develop a single technical innovation, which has previously not been demonstrated, to significantly reduce the cost of passenger kilometres travelled (PKT) per capita in your country by 2030. This can focus on one mode of passenger transportation from road, rail, water or air, or you can use a combination of each.

UK students are being asked to register online a team of three to take part, and are required to complete a short technical quiz by 16 November.

A shortlist of teams will be selected and asked to send in their competition entry to address this year’s challenge. The successful teams will progress to a semi final in early February.

The UK Grand Final, where teams will go head-to-head, will take place on 8 March at The Royal Institution of Great Britain, London.
