Mobile commerce experts MoPowered revealed 84 per cent of small-to-medium fashion enterprises do not have a mobile site, yet 89 per cent say m-commerce is essential for future success.
Market research agency OnePoll conducted the survey on behalf of MoPowered and revealed that retailers recognise the demand to go mobile, but those surveyed said they were prevented from doing so by perceived high cost, lack of resources and security concerns.
Despite 33 per cent expressing concerns over mobile payments risks and 36 per cent thought it was too time-consuming; retailers reported they believe m-commerce will increase by 33 per cent over the next five years. The survey also found that when retailers had used non-optimised sites to make a purchase, more than 25 per cent had completely abandoned the transaction as it had taken too long, while 79 per cent said they found the process slow and difficult to navigate.
“Fashion retailers are among the most visionary in the retail sector and they are right to think that creating an m-site for consumers to shop on their smartphones is important in order to survive,” said Dominic Keen, chief executive at MoPowered. “Retailers that don’t offer mobile shopping are losing out on sales because mobile transactions are not being converted due to users difficulties in navigating on non-mobile-optimised sites. This is an easily avoidable situation.”
