MasterCard has unveiled three new partnerships enabling it to reach ‘the next billion consumers’ through mobile payments at Mobile World Congress.
The first partnership with telecommunications company Telefónica is designed to provide mobile payment technologies to over 87 million Spanish mobile phone operator Movistar customers in its Latin American markets. The services will be linked to a mobile wallet or prepaid account that will enable money transfers, mobile airtime reload, bill payment and retail purchases.
Second comes a joint venture with mobile payments company Boku Inc aims to enhance the shopping experience for consumers, enabling them to make payments, receive discounts and monitor spending using their mobile device where MasterCard is accepted.
In a third initiative, the new MasterCard mobile Money Partnership program launched with value-added service provider Comviva, mobile messaging company Sybase 365 and mobile financial service Ubita aims to enable consumers to purchase goods and services, transfer funds and pay bills using their mobile device.
