Seven manufacturers in the UK are in the running to win a prestigious manufacturing award this week.
Winners of the Manufacturing Excellence (MX) awards, held by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers to showcase and support the best of UK manufacturing, will be announced on Wednesday at the Dorchester Hotel in London.
PricewaterhouseCoopers are sponsoring a new trophy, the PwC Most Improved Company Award, and those shortlisted for the award are Carl Zeiss NTS Ltd, Draeger Safety UK, Flybrid Systems, Howden Compressors Limited, Palintest, Survitec Group – RFD Beaufort and Texecom limited.
"PwC is pleased to shine a light on those MX participants who have truly excelled in improving their businesses and demonstrating the quality of British manufacturing,” said PwC’s Industrial Products Leader Philip Hines.
Judges read business cases from companies outlining what improvements they had made in the last three years across the following areas before choosing the seven best above.
Categories for improvement include:
• Business development & change management
• Customer focus
• Financial management
• Innovation in products and processes
• Logistics and operational efficiency
• Partnership with education
• People effectiveness and sustainable manufacturing
Other finalists for the awards include AESSEAL, Agfa Graphics, Bombardier Transportation, Brother Industries, Leyland Trucks, Loadhog, MBDA, Michelin Ballymena, Pipex px, ScotAsh and Trend Control Systems.
