One of the UK’s largest rooftop solar PV installations has gone live on the 5,100m2 roof space of Hampshire Cosmetics.
The 277kWp installation combines two major photovoltaic technologies, thin film and polycrystalline, and will provide over 20 per cent of the company's annual energy requirements as well as improving its carbon footprint.
Any surplus electricity generated is fed back into the National Grid, taking advantage of the Government’s Feed in Tariffs (FiTs).
Anesco Asset Management carried out the installation and will provide ongoing maintenance after signing an agreement earlier this year to lease the rooftop.
The solar PV scheme is the latest in a series of environmental projects Hampshire Cosmetics has undertaken.
A programme of training that has encouraged recycling and discouraged wastage saw 77 tonnes of waste diverted from landfill last year, while an effluent treatment plant installed and commissioned in 2010 has reduced trade effluent costs by 36 per cent.
