Online recruitment increases after recovery in manufacturing and construction sectors

Recovery in manufacturing and construction boosts online recruitment

Online recruitment has increased in recent months after a "strong" recovery by construction and manufacturing firms, according to a new report.

Recruitment firm Monster says its employment index, which measures online job demand, increased by nine per cent last month and is now at its highest point since the end of 2008, suggesting an increasingly positive outlook for jobseekers.

Despite increases in recruitment among transport, post and logistics firms, there were falls in the public sector following the Government's spending cuts.

Monster spokesperson Isabelle Ratinaud says it is a “significant milestone to see recruitment at its highest level since December 2008 and trends indicate a positive outlook for most UK industries”.

"Many sectors that were said to be struggling, such as construction, have shown a strong recovery this month, while others, particularly those relating to manufacturing, have performed well, partly due to growing trade in the export sector.

"The figures are positive for jobseekers who can feel confident that there are an increasing number of roles available. However, candidates must also remember that high levels of unemployment mean competition is strong so they must continue to go the extra mile in applications and interviews to stand out from the crowd," Ratinaud says.
