Stainless steel PCs for industrial uses
A new line of industrial panel PCs cased in stainless steel is claimed to be rugged, water- and dust-proof enough to be used in all weathers and even cleaned with chemicals.
The HMI (human-machine interface) PCs are intended to be used as operators' panels and machinery control systems in harsh industrial environments – their manufacturer American Industrial Systems they comply with the hygiene requirements of the food and beverage industry, and could also be useful in other production areas such as pharmaceutical and tobacco.
AIS claimed that the fanless systems feature low power consumption, high reliability, long product life cycle and superior performance per watt. Versions are available with Intel Atom processors, or for extremely low power consumption there are models with AMD's Geode LX-800 processors.
Other options include touchscreens, transflective screens that are readable in direct sunlight, LED-backlit panels, and custom I/O's, the company said. In addition, the PCs have shock-mounted hard drives or solid-state disks.
AIS added that it uses specially designed IP65/NEMA 4X weatherproof connectors and cables, and that its design incorporates ABS thermoplastic covers and o-rings to completely seal the monitor from particulate dust and water. The touchscreen panel PCs are available in 15”, 17”, and 19” sizes, and have VESA-standard mounting holes for installation.
