Hurd now heading for Oracle?

Mark Hurd is back in the news again, after the Wall Street Journal revealed that the ousted HP chief executive may now be angling to join Oracle.

According to a story in the current edition, Hurd – who resigned from HP last month after sexual harassment was alleged by a former marketing contractor – has been ‘in talks’ with the IT software giant, with a view to an senior executive appointment. Following an internal investigation by the HP board, Hurd was cleared of the original allegations, but was found to have violated the company’s code of business conduct.

In a public outburst on August 11, Oracle CE and founder Larry Ellison castigated the HP board for committing what he described as a “the worst personnel decision since the idiots on the Apple board fired Steve Jobs…”

The Wall Street Journal story cautions that no details about the exact nature of any new position for Hurd’s new were forthcoming, and Ellison is unlikely to be able to appoint Hurd unilaterally – the Oracle board ‘would still needs to approve any appointment’ it adds.
