TI takes licence for Imagination graphics

Imagination Technologies has signed a multi-use licence agreement with Texas Instruments for a multiprocessor version of the PowerVR SGX Series5XT graphics processing unit (GPU) IP core.

TI will use the core in future OMAP-based SoC designs for smartphones and other mobile devices.
Hossein Yassaie, CEO of Imagination said: “We are delighted to confirm that we have extended our long-standing relationship with TI. Our core technology continues to be vital to the significant and growing success of TI’s OMAP processors, an industry leading mobile and embedded SoC platform.”
The Series5XT GPU is based on a shader engine designed to deliver higher processing throughput than the earlier Series5 shader engine and adds architectural extensions for low-power 2D, 3D and general purpose processing in either single-core or multiprocessor forms.
