IK issues iRig for iPhone guitarists

Italian software developers IK Multimedia has announced an instrument interface adapter called iRig for use with Apple’s iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad mobile devices. The iRig allows a guitar or bass to be directly attached to one of the iP devices and the signal processed with the new AmpliTube for iPhone software.

The iRig features a standard 1/4in (7mm) jack for the instrument lead and a 1/8in (3.5mm) line out jack so the player can monitor their performance through headphones, powered speakers or any physical guitar amp. A short cable connects the iRig to an iP device via its headphone socket.

The iRig also works with any other recording, processing or tuning app, opening up new creative possibilities with the multitrack recording apps already available, such as Sonoma Wireworks’ FourTrack and StudioTrack apps. The iRig can also be used with line-level signal sources, such as synthesizers, keyboards, drum machines and mixing desks.

Three versions of the AmpliTube for iPhone software are available to accompany the iRig. AmpliTube FREE for iPhone has three simultaneous stompbox effects plus amplifier, cabinet and microphone emulations, all of which can be controlled by the user. Further amps and effects can be added as required through the AmpliTube iRig app custom shop.

AmpliTube LE includes additional effect stomp boxes, amplifer heads, speaker cabinets and microphones, while AmpliTube Full bundles the complete suite of 10 stomp boxes (delay, flanger, phaser, overdrive, distortion, filter, wah, fuzz, octaver, chorus), five amps (clean, crunch, lead, metal, bass), five cabinets (1x12, 2x12, 4x12A, 4x12B, 1x15) and two mics (dynamic and condenser).

The software also includes a tuner and metronome, will store 36 presets and allows for importing songs to play along with.

AmpliTube iRig is available for pre-order from the IK online store and selected dealers and distributors worldwide, priced at €29.99. The AmpliTube for iPhone software will be available on the iTunes App Store soon, priced free, €2.39 for the LE version and €15.99 for the full version.
