Social networking 'does not help IT jobseekers'

New research has found that eight in ten people looking for jobs in the IT sector have not managed to find new roles through social networking sites.

IT professionals found that job boards and recruitment consultants were the best ways to find a new post.

The pay gap between IT workers in the north and south of the UK is closing, new research from technology staffing firm ReThink Recruitment has found.

In the north, IT workers earned 69 per cent of London salaries in 2009, which was a three per cent increase from 2008.

The average weekly pay for IT workers in the north also rose last year, meaning that they earned six per cent more than in 2008. Workers received £625 compared with £590 per week in the previous year.
