Chippenham wireless technology team win Sony partnership
IPWireless has struck a deal with Sony America jointly to research and develop 4G wireless technologies.
The R&D work will be based at IPWireless' technology centre in Chippenham, England. It will combine Sony's expertise in delivering user experiences with the 3GPP hardware and software development skills of IPWireless. The idea is to extend the capabilities of LTE and other 3GPP technologies, and contribute to the evolution of 3GPP standards.
3GPP is a collaboration between telecommunications associations and international standards organisations that sets the standards for the next generation of mobile networks after GSM, such as WCDMA, HSPA, IMB, LTE, and LTE Advanced.
Dr Bill Jones, chief executive officer of IPWireless, said: "Through this partnership, we believe that IPWireless will be able to greatly enhance the solutions we provide our mobile operator customers today, while developing next-generation services and applications that will continue to bolster our reputation as a leading wireless pioneer."
Gregg Walker, senior vice president, corporate development, Sony Corporation of America, said: "IPWireless' outstanding reputation for innovation and its significant contributions to the development of 3GPP wireless standards over the past decade make it an ideal partner for developing 4G technologies that will shape the future of tomorrow's wireless lifestyle."
