Home cinema system sales surge at John Lewis

John Lewis has announced that over the last six months sales of home cinema technology have surged 30 per cent. "Customers are choosing to buy higher end home cinema systems, which include Blu-ray technology," said John Kempner, buyer for vision, John Lewis.

John Lewis also reports that sales of the Sony PlayStation 3, featuring a built-in Blu-ray disc player has risen 120 per cent in the last year. "There is a social trend for communal watching and home film clubs" said Kempner.

The cold weather and recession are also believed to have spurred purchases of home cinema equipment as more Britains stay indoors and avoided expensive vacations.

The largest consumer-electronics trade show in the world, CES in Las Vegas in January, was notable for the launch of 3D TV. 3D TV sets are due to launch in the UK in April. And Blu-ray discs will include 3D content this year.
