Canon EOS 550D: full HD video makes it to mid-price dSLR

The Canon EOS 550D is the new mid-level digital SLR from the imaging company and is the first to feature "Full HD" 1080p video capture, at 30 frames per second (or 720p at 60fps).

The 18 megapixel Canon EOS 550D also features 9-point Auto Focus system, ISO 100 to 6400 ("expandable" to 12800) and a 3" LCD screen. It will be available from 24 February. UK pricing is yet to be confirmed, but the Canon EOS 550D is set to retail, without lens, in the US for $800 (around £500).

The EOS 550D was revealed alongside several other Canon digital cameras just prior to the PMA tradeshow, the world's largest digital imaging event. Also unveiled by Canon were new compact IXUS and PowerShot models.
