Movidius platform enables video-editing on-the-fly on mobiles

Multimedia specialist Movidius has launched a new mobile platform that will give Android mobile devices the capability to edit video and images on the fly in high definition.

Additionally, the Myriad platform will allow for real time editing of high resolution images and 3D content.

The technology underlying the product is silicon and features an 8 multicore vector architecture which Movidius claims will deliver up to 20 Giga flops (floating point operations) which would beat the ARM based processor used widely in the iPhone and other smartphone devices hands down.

According to Sean Mitchell, CEO, Movidius, the device will also open up new capabilities in mobile devices – such as transcoding on the fly and video and image stabilisation capabilities.
