Environmentally friendly technology cleans up in Swiss university

Cleantech companies spun out of a Swiss science and technology university last year indicate the growth areas for the future.

These four new firms work in energy and water-saving software; sustainable building; conversion of waste heat into energy; and CO2 collection, storage and delivery for reuse. Overall, ten of the new companies were in information and communications technology, three each in electrical and mechanical engineering, and three in services.

Silvio Bonaccio, Head of ETH transfer, ETH Zurich's technology transfer office, said: "Spin-offs can develop solutions that enable our production and consumption methods to become more sustainable."
