Engineering solutions company moves to GoogleApps
Engineering, technical, and construction management solutions provider LotusWorks has deployed Google Apps Premier Edition across its global workforce.
LotusWorks specialises in providing solutions to the manufacturing- and energy-related industries. The Sligo-headquartered company decided to switch almost 100 users to the web-based communication and collaboration suite for its operations in Ireland and the US.
“We decided to look at an alternative after we experienced a serious outage incident in [with out legacy system in] Ireland which affected our business operations in the US,” says LotusWorks IT manager Gary Gilgan. “Our email systems failed late one evening just as our business colleagues in the US were starting work. Because it was ‘out of hours’ here in Ireland we couldn’t get the necessary IT support, and a day’s work was lost in our US operations.”
LotusWorks looked at available alternatives, including off-site enterprise data processing facilities, but these proved to be prohibitively expensive, Gilgan reports; eventually the company opted for a Web-based solution provided by Google Enterprise. “We [decided that we] wanted a solution that could be hosted online.”
Gilgan adds: “Google runs all of its corporate service operations in ‘the Cloud’. There is no software or hardware to install, or maintenance required. Updates to the products or security updates are carried out remotely by Google, often, and as needed. This removes any headache for our IT team.”
