Halloween parents offered Trick or Treat tracking
But what are they doing about Mischief Night?
The company is offering its Family Locator service to parents in Michigan and Indiana so that, using the GPS services embedded in Sprint phones, they can track their little ghouls and goblins as they go about their neighbourhoods. The service will deliver real-time tracking data on each child to an interactive satellite map that includes street maps and landmarks.
The maps can be delivered to a compatible handset or PC, and access to them is protected by password.
The Family Locator service can also be set up to send automatic notifications of a child's location on specific days and at precise times, and offers a seven-day location history.
Sprint says it will be offering trick or treating bags, flashlights, and clip-on reflectors to anyone who receives a Family Locator demonstration at nominated stores.
Halloween is the busiest day of the year for Sprint's picture messaging service. Traffic on Halloween 2008 was up 64 per cent on that in 2007. The company is expecting traffic to double over 2008 this year, in part because Halloween falls on a Saturday.
