Toshiba to join Blu-ray association

Toshiba has decided to apply for membership of the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) amid plans to introduce products that support the Blu-ray format having lost the battle to make its favoured technology HD-DVD the standard for high-definition video players.

In a statement, the company said: “In light of recent growth in digital devices supporting the Blu-ray format, combined with market demand from consumers and retailers alike, Toshiba has decided to join the BDA.”
Toshiba said it will introduce Blu-ray players and notebook PCs with Blu-ray drives this year.
