Ex-Tesco IT chief joins HMRC

HM Revenue and Customs has recruited former Tesco CIO Colin Cobain as part of its new intake of non-executive directors.

Cobain is currently serving as interim CIO at the brewer SABMiller, which operates across six continents, and owns the Grolsch, Peroni, Pilsner Urqual, Castle, and Miller Genuine Draft brands. He is also the non-executive chairman of healthcare firm Safe Surgery Systems.

During his time at Tesco Cobain is said to have played ‘a significant role’ in the transformation of the supermarket’s technological capability. Cobain’s positions prior to this included being head of MIS at Kingfisher Group, and IT director at Thorn EMI and Rumbelows.
