Innovative firm scoops two IET awards
The annual awards are presented in recognition of innovation across engineering disciplines
A UK valve-engineering company has scooped two awards in the IET Innovation Awards, which aim to recognise new ideas in industry.
Liquid Lever Solutions won both the product design and the sustainability awards at the Institution of Engineering and Technology event in London.
The company won the product design award for its liquid lever moisture-activated irrigation valve, which the judges said demonstrated excellent innovation with huge implications for developing countries.
It was also an excellent example of technology appropriate for third world and rural applications.
The same device also won the sustainability award because, the judges said, it was “a superbly innovative, self-activating, zero-energy device of worldwide benefit to humanity, using a novel approach to make a major improvement in the conservation of irrigation water supplies - simple, highly effective and able to deliver major social benefits”.
The Innovation Awards spanned 15 categories and attracted hundreds of entries from around the world, according to the IET.
Chief executive Robin McGill said: “The awards highlight the depth and breadth of innovative work which is being carried out and it is clear from the range of entries that innovation is alive and well.”
