Sharp pitches 82in display at outdoor e-signage
Sharp has launched an 82in TFT LCD panel, in portrait format, aimed at the burgeoning e-signage market, currently growing at more than 60 per year.
To be shown at this year’s Electronica, the panel has a powerful backlight and a highly transmissive optical structure to provide a typical light output of 1500cd per square metre. The panel supports high-definition resolution at 1080 x 1920 pixels and has a pixel-switching time of 6ms, allowing the display of video. Static contrast is 1200:1 with a viewing angle of 176° in all directions. Sharp claims a service life of 60,000 hours in permanent operation to reduce the amount of time needed for maintenance.
“With the introduction of the new 82-inch LCD panel from Sharp, system integrators have a display available for the first time that corresponds to the dimensions of current advertising poster formats of the 2 square-metre category and also supplies sufficient brightness for outdoor use,” claimed Sven Johannsen, who is responsible for e-signage displays in the LCD product marketing division of Sharp Microelectronics Europe. “City light posters can be replaced at appropriate places by digital advertising displays without the advertising message having to be adapted to new size formats.”
