Telecity to open 8m Milan data centre as demand booms

Telecity Group has announced the opening of a second data centre in Milan, to meet increased demand and overall use in the company’s existing facility in one of Italy’s largest cities.

Milan is renowned as one of the global centres of fashion and design. The new €8m facility enters one of Europe’s fastest growing data centre markets, the company says, and will be its 22nd data centre in Europe. It will offer approximately 2000 square metres and over 2.5 megawatts of customer capacity, and will come on line by end of Q2/2009.

“Customers are increasingly seeking network independent, resilient data centres to provide secure hosting and connectivity services,” said Luca Beltramino, managing director of TelecityGroup Italy. “The growth of the Internet economy, plus the evolving online needs of business both locally and internationally, are combining to drive the increase in demand for high-quality data centres.”
