3G iPhone worldwide launch

Apple’s 3G iPhone goes on sale today around the world with eager customers queuing outside Apple stores around the globe.

In the UK, the 3G iPhone will be available UK mobile service provider, O2, on an exclusive basis. The price will be dependent on the contract.

Apple hopes to sell ten million devices worldwide before the end of the year. In the meantime, competition is expected to get hotter when Research In Motion (RIM) is expected to launch a consumer version of the BlackBerry later this year – the Thunder.

There are unsubstantiated rumours that the new BlackBerry will feature true multi-touch capability which could undermine one of the main unique selling propositions of the iPhone.
