Manufacturing and engineering pick up safety honours

Around 190 businesses in the manufacturing and engineering services industries were honoured at this year̵7;s Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards.

The winner of the Manufacturing Sector was Springfields Fuels of Preston, with Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK, Derby, highly commended and National Semiconductor (UK), Greenock, commended. Springfields Fuels was also commended in the International Dilmun Environmental Award.  

The Engineering Services Sector was won by GE Transportation of Welwyn Garden City, with ScottishPower Fleet Business highly commended. ScottishPower Fleet Business also won the trophy for managing occupational road risk.  

Tom Mullarkey, RoSPA Chief Executive, said: ̶0;Our sector awards are about recognising the ̵6;best of the best̵7; in UK business and overseas as well. Winners have to demonstrate not just real director-level leadership, sound procedures, access to professional advice and thorough workforce involvement; they have also have to show how health and safety performance has been pursued throughout the business as a key objective.̶1;  

The presentations were made by Lord Jordan of Bournville, Deputy President of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, Lord Brougham and Vaux, Vice-President, and Tom Mullarkey, RoSPA Chief Executive.
