Poppadum-picking robots scoop innovation award
A robotics company based that specialises in providing systems for the food industry has beaten technology firms from throughout Salford to collect the city̵7;s first Business Award for Innovation.
RTS Flexible Systems attributes its victory to a combination of cutting-edge technology and high-tech employment opportunities. The company is a business unit of Manchester-based process automation firm Robotic Technology Systems, and was established in 2001 to exploit RTS̵7;s 20 years of experience with industrial robotic technology in the food handling and packaging sector.
Since then it has grown to become one of the largest British robot system integrators delivering high-speed vision-guided pick and place robotics for product handling and packaging. The Salford Award highlighted RTS̵7; pioneering developments in robotic gripper design, including a system that enables a robot to pick fragile cooked poppadums without breaking them or to accelerate scotch pancakes to 5G without touching them.
