Go ahead for first stage of defence training review

The UK Ministry of Defence has confirmed funding arrangements for the initial phases of an overhaul of training that will affect engineers in Britain̵7;s armed forces.

Package 1 of the Defence Training Review, which encompasses aeronautical engineering, electromechanical engineering and communications and information systems will begin with a £9.5m ̵6;pre-contract̵7; stage.

The cash will cover a programme of analysis and detailed planning to be carried out over the coming months by preferred bidder the Metrix UK consortium, which is led by Qinetiq and property management specialist Land Securities Trillium.

The work will cover several key areas. As well as training management and support, it will include surveys of the MoD̵7;s St Athan site in Wales where a new UK defence training academy will be based.

Qinetiq chief executive Graham Love said: ̶0;We are delighted that we now have confirmation that pre-contract funding has been agreed. This is a key step forward for the DTR programme.̶1;
