ABB launches new high-efficiency motors

ABB has launched new low voltage AC motors with improved energy efficiency and life-cycle value and has rearranged its standard motor portfolio into three ranges ̵1; general performance motors, industrial performance motors and process performance motors.

The new motors are available from 0,06 to 95 kW while the frame size starts from 56, going all the way to 250. Frame materials include cast iron and aluminum.

The main improvement, however, is in their efficiency, with all motors in the industrial and process performance ranges fulfillling EFF1, EPAct and the Australian MEPS efficiency requirements, whereas the general performance motors successfully reaching the EFF2 level.

̶0;With these new motors, we are taking life-cycle values to a new level. In addition to higher efficiency, all features aiming at improved reliability and durability, such as bearing design and cooling have been completely renewed̶1;, says Marco Veeckman, Vice President Marketing at ABB Low Voltage Motors. ̶0;The new bearing design longer bearing lifetime and with the new greased-for-life bearings the load capacity can be increased for frame sizes 160-250.̶1;

Special attention has also been paid to robustness. In bigger sizes, the aluminum motors are equipped with cast iron end shields, whereas in smaller sizes the main focus has been on the power output efficiency.
