Big Bang Fair calls for volunteers
Big Bang volunteers
The Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Fair is calling for volunteers for next year’s event.
The Big Bang Fair, in March next year, is the UK’s largest celebration of science, technology, eningeering and maths for young people. Over 65,000 students, teachers and families are expected to attend the event at ExCeL London. For the first time, the annual event will be extending to four days from 14 – 17 March 2013 with Wednesday and Thursday dedicated to school groups and Saturday and Sunday open to families.
Organisers of the fair are looking to boost the number of volunteers for the fair. They are looking for anyone with a background in science, technology, engineering or maths, who is over 18 and committed to helping visitors get the best from all there is on offer.
Volunteers will help visitors to get the most out of the fair, which will be packed with interactive activity stands from across the country. From taking control of a virtual nuclear reactor to finding out about the physiology of humans surviving in the world's harshest environments and being part of a Guinness World Record in the first ever explosive live science show, there are so many activities to excite and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.
There are a variety of roles for volunteers, from helping visitors find their way around the fair, recommending interactive stands and activities to people with particular interests, accompanying school groups, and assisting with the National Science + Engineering Competition.
Training will be available along with all the information you need about the fair and your role at the event.
2012 volunteer, Terry Harvey-Chadwick, from SV Educational Services, said: “As a STEM Guide at The Big Bang Fair in Birmingham, I found the event truly inspirational with so many young scientists and engineers showing such talent. The industry and university stands were wonderful, full of incredible demonstrations, activities and information. I can’t wait until next year.”
