Live Facebook science lesson at Royal Albert Hall

Dallas Campbell and Dr Yan Wong, presenters of BBC1 show Bang Goes The Theory, will be delivering the lesson, investigating "the science of sound", to classrooms in the UK and abroad.

The Royal Albert Hall said the class, due to take place on Facebook in October, was part of its aim to inspire children to get involved in the arts and sciences.

Lucy Noble, head of programming and education at the music venue, said it hoped "the world's first science lesson broadcast live to classrooms via Facebook", would be the first of many.

"We already work with over 100,000 children each year, predominantly in London, and the science lesson offers us the chance to extend our reach and to take the Royal Albert Hall into classrooms across the country and even the world," she said.

The Royal Albert Hall's chief executive Chris Cotton said: "We're constantly looking to develop our education offer as part of our extensive public benefit remit. Through new platforms, such as Facebook, we're looking to extend our reach even further."

The Hall, which has a remit to educate in the arts and sciences, is currently signing up schools for the afternoon lesson.
